Weight 11 stone 8lbs!
Rather depressed this morning to find that I have actually put on another 2lbs! Still I'm in this for the long haul so I will keep going.
Meals last week.
1st day
Breakfast - boiled egg and wholemeal, seeded toast
Dinner - steamed salmon and roasted vegetables
2nd day
Breakfast - boiled egg and wholemeal, seeded toast (this has turned out to be my favourite breakfast)
Dinner - pasta (half sized portion to usual) with a homemade sauce of tinned tomato, chopped onions and peppers with basil.
I watched what I ate over the weekend too. I didn't diet, but I was careful to eat sensibly. The weekend that I mentioned a few weeks ago where I was eating fish and chips, and roast dinners, is unusual. I normally eat fairly healthily all the time.

Week four of the 5:2 fasting diet
I've decided to just update this weekly from now on.
Weight 12 stone 6 lbs
Well, I didn't stay 12 stone 4 for very long! At the end of my first fasting day last week I was back to 12 stone 8 again! Bit discouraging, but I had eaten a lot more than usual the weekend before so it was to be expected. Also, this is a permanent diet so I should expect a few ups and downs. The idea of this diet is that once you reach your target weight you just fast one day a week, instead of two, to just maintain the weight loss. I'm finding it much easier now. For the first few weeks I would have a headache by the evening but that has stopped now. I've also found what works best for me, which is to have a good breakfast then eat nothing until a light evening meal. It's important to drink lots of fluids though. I allow myself one cup of tea with milk first thing in the morning, but then drink black or herbal tea for the rest of the day.
On Monday I had one slice of wholemeal seeded home made bread and one poached egg for breakfast. For dinner I had one slice of haricot bean loaf with steamed vegetables.
On Thursday I had a bowl of porridge made with skimmed milk and water. I chopped up an apple to stir in to it, which was very tasty. For dinner I had stir fried vegetables (using less oil and soy sauce then usual) with a sliced hard boiled egg.
I'm still looking after hubby whilst I'm on this diet. He has the same dinners as me but bigger portions, and I added a jacket potato to Monday's meal, and egg noodles to Thursdays meal. He doesn't like the idea of fasting himself!

Week Three; Day Five of the 5:2 fasting diet
Weight 12 stone 4lbs
Well, I'm not sure that I really understand how, but this diet really works!
On Thursday I know that I went over my calorie limit - not sure exactly but I had around 650 calories (500 is the recommended limit for women).
For breakfast I had one boiled egg and one slice of home made seeded wholemeal bread. (around 300 calories)
For dinner I had one Sainsbury's good for you meal, prawn biryani (318 calories) and I added 6 cherry tomatoes to the mix.
The next day, Friday, I weighed myself because I was too impatient to wait until Monday, which is my usual weighing day - and I had lost another two pounds, bringing me to 12 stone 6.
We had people around for dinner Friday night and I ate a lot, homemade garlic bread using loads of butter, pasta and apple pie with ice cream and clotted cream. On Saturday we went to a getogether and I ate several cakes and biscuits; then in the evening we had beef stew with dumplings. Sunday I ate quite a bit of cheese.
I got on the scales this morning wondering how much weight I had put back on, only to find that I had actually lost another two pounds, bringing my weight to 12 stone 4!!
I start today's fast day with renewed enthusiasm!!

Week Two, day three
Weight 12 stone 8lbs
That's a loss of 3lbs from last week, even though we had fish and chips on Friday and a roast dinner on Sunday!
Breakfast
1 boiled egg and three celery sticks (I like celery and dipped it in my egg instead of bread, tasted nice)
Lunch
One Ainsley Harriot broccolli and stilton cup soup (95 calories)
Dinner
One Sainsbury's good for you ready meal - chicken thai curry (320 calories)
I struggled with the fast yesterday, but whenever I felt the temptation to give in and eat a biscuit, I only had to remind myself that I could have one tomorrow. I felt much hungrier too, the ready meals are not nearly as filling as the meals that I make myself.

Day Two of the 5:2 fasting diet
My second day on this diet was last Thursday.
For breakfast I had one slice of home made seeded bread and one poached egg.
I ate nothing at all for lunch.
For dinner I had one slice of haricot bean loaf (a tasty recipe from Gillian McKeith of "you are what you eat" fame) with steamed asparagus, broccoli and green beans.
I drank black tea through out the day.
I think that to make the fast days work, you need to choose tasty food that you like. I am finding it difficult to count the calories of food that I make myself though, lots of guess work involved!

I start the 5:2 fasting diet
This is really just a personal blog to record my experiences with the 5:2 fasting diet.
I started this on Monday 4th February 2013
My weight 12 stone 11lb
Height 5 ft 6 inches
I hadn't planned ahead to start this but had downloaded the Michael Moseley's book and been inspired to start straight away, so I had to go with what ingredients I already had in stock. I also decided to go with what I fancied. The book offers guidelines, but pretty much leaves it up to you to work out what to eat and how to implement the diet - although it does give a few recipes and a calorie chart.
For breakfast I made a sort of waldorf salad with two apples (cox), a couple of sticks of celery, about half a teaspoon of chopped walnuts, a level teaspoon of full fat mayonnaisse and a little lime juice to thin out the mayo. Very tasty, but don't think I'll choose it as a breakfast choice again.
At lunch time I ate another stick of celery and two or three cherry tomatoes.
For dinner I had half a tin of tuna in springwater, a portion of mixed wholegrain rice (brown basmati, wild, and red carmague), roasted cherry tomatoes (sprayed with one cal oil and with a teaspoon dried basil), steamed broccoli and green beans.
Funnily enough, I found that I felt hungry straight after eating, so I'm sure that was psychological! I did feel hungry at lunch time but I drank lots of black and herbal teas.
The next morning, which was a feast day, I made my usual breakfast of two slices of toast, but found that I only wanted one slice!
